ArchiMate is described by The Open Group as an open and independent modelling language for Enterprise Architecture that is supported by different tool vendors and consulting firms. ArchiMate provides instruments to enable enterprise architects to describe, analyse and visualise the relationships among and across not just the business, application and technology domains in an unambiguous way, but also encompasses the motivational aspects that drive the design and operation of the enterprise as well as the implementation and migration of architectures. At its core, ArchiMate offers a common language for describing the construction and operation of business processes, organisational structures, information flows, IT systems, and technical infrastructure. This insight helps stakeholders to design, assess, and communicate the consequences of decisions (ie. Impact Analysis and changes within and between these business domains. The ArchiMate Motivation and Implementation extensions of ArchiMate 2 extend the language reach further.
