Data sanitization is the process of irreversibly removing or destroying data stored on a memory device (hard drives, flash memory / SSDs, mobile devices, CDs, and DVDs, etc.) or in hard copy form. It is important to use the proper technique to ensure that all data is purged.
Deletion of data from devices.
- Degaussing is a demagnetising process to destroy data stored on hard drives and other magnetic media such as audio and backup tapes. If you want to protect your information, one option for complete removal of data is to degauss before you physically destroy or recycle the asset.
