Some principles to guide data management.

  1. Data is an Asset
  2. Data should be assessible
  3. Data should be secure
  4. Data needs to be understood (i.e. metadata, glossaries, lineage)
  5. Data should be consistent (i.e. data quality)
  6. Data should be governed

Data Protection Principles

  • Fairly and lawfully processed
  • Processed for limited purposes
  • Adequate, relevant and not excessive
  • Accurate
  • Not kept for longer than is necessary (Data Retention)
  • Processed in line with your rights
  • Secure
    • Not transferred to other countries without adequate protection
