The National Firearms Identification Database (NFID) is a reference tool that helps Australian police identify and record firearms in a consistent way. The database is used to identify and characterise a firearm, using details such as make, model, chambering and capacity.
The database assists assists in ensuring a firearm is described consistently during its registration, during importation or during transfer of ownership and movement across state and territory borders.
