The TRM has 2 main components:

  1. A taxonomy that defines terminology, and provides a coherent description
  2. A model that provides a visual representation of the taxonomy.

The TRM emphasizes 2 major common architecture objectives:

  1. Application Portability - achieved via Application Platform Interface
  2. Interoperability - achieved via Communication Infrastructure Interface

Application Platform Services

The application platform entity consists of a number of components termed "service categories". These high-level services for the Application platform are:

  • Data Interchange Services
  • Data Management Services
  • Graphics and Imaging Services
  • International Operation Services
  • Location and Directory Services
  • Network Services
  • Object-Oriented Provision of Services
  • Operating System Services
